BASIC and ADVANCED OBEDIENCE

Due to the number of requests we have received from pet and companion dog owners for obedience training, we have established a program to train obedience on an exclusive level.

We are of the opinion that the dog/handler team can learn more quickly, and more successfully, regardless of the type of training, in a one-on-one atmosphere with their trainer. For this reason we do not offer obedience training in a class type atmosphere. Our obedience courses consist of the dog, the handler, and the trainer in the more distraction-free setting of the owners home, gradually working on out into more public settings.

All of our training is conducted using strictly positive reinforcement methodologies. No aversives are used, no gimmicks or gadgets like prong collars, E-collars and the like are utilized, or indeed tolerated. There are no "quick fixes" and through Canine Neuroscience we have discovered positive reinforcement may take a bit longer, but its effects last a lot longer…

On offer is our Basic Obedience course; Mainly for young dogs just starting, it covers the foundation obedience that is a prerequisite for all other training. It consists of five sessions, one hour each, ordinarily conducted in the evenings. Such things as the Sit, Stay, Down, Recall, walking on a loose leash, etc. are covered. In conjunction with that is an educational primer on dog psychology and physiology, to help avoid bad behaviors becoming established in the first place. Common problems i.e. "jumping up" will be discussed, and ways to prevent them are covered.

We also offer an Advanced Obedience course; likewise it consists of five one hour information intensive sessions. This takes obedience to the next level, and covers a wide variety of exercises and topics. Very generally speaking we seek to teach a lot of the behaviors and exercises that will prepare your dog for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.

With dedication and practice it will make your dog a pleasure to be with in virtually any venue. Concepts of dog psychology and physiology will be expanded upon to give the owner a better understanding of "what makes the dog tick". This can be considered as even more foundation training for anyone wanting to take their dog "to the next level" or prepare him for life as a working dog, whether it is Service Work, Scent Work, SAR etc…

The costs incurred for exclusive training are of course higher than those involved in classroom training, but the knowledge and benefits derived are correspondingly higher as well. See our Pricing Structure page for more information.
